Why Cliffjumper and Teletran-1 were gone for good

A few years ago, I was doing one of the voices in the TV cartoon series, “Transformers.” One week, the script featured an evil character named Abdul, King of Carbombya. He was like all the other cartoon Arabs. I asked the director, “Are there any good Arabs in this script for balance?” We looked. There was one other—but he was no different than Abdul. So, I told the show’s director that, in good conscience, I couldn’t be a part of that show. I wrote a letter to the President and Chief Executive Officer of Marvel Productions, Margaret Ann Loesch.

Carbombya

In the episode Five Faces of Darkness (Part 1), the character Abdul Fakkadi was introduced as the "Supreme Military Dictator, King of Kings, and President For Life of the Socialist Democratic Federated Republic of Carbombya." This was an obvious play on tensions between the United States and Libya. Fakkadi's name is a near anagram of Libyan President Muammar al-Qaddafi's name. Reportedly, voice actor Casey Kasem, who voiced the character Cliffjumper and the Autobots' computer Teletraan I and who is of Lebanese descent, objected to the parody, and quit the show when it was not removed from the episode. Cliffjumper, despite having survived the movie, was phased out as of that episode, and Teletraan I was destroyed with the Ark in the episode Five Faces of Darkness (Part 5).

这件事情讲的配音演员Casey Kasem的一段经历。

Casey Kasem是利比亚人后裔。他负责S1和S2中飞过山和显像管一号的配音。在第三季第一集《五面怪》中，出现了一个人类角色叫做Abdul Fakkadi，他是Carbombya的国王，一个自吹自擂的独裁者，拥有一串长得吓人的头衔。很显然，这个人物就是用来讽刺当时和美国关系紧张的利比亚领导人卡扎菲（Muammar al-Qaddafi）。Fakkadi与Qaddafi字形非常接近。Casey Kasem对于这种“不怀好意的恶搞行为”十分气愤，在向Marvel的总裁发抗议信无效之后，退出了剧组。

他的退出对第三季的剧情也造成了影响。飞过山虽然在大电影中幸存，但在第三季中基本上不出场了。而显像管一号，在编剧的有意安排之下，也在《五面怪》的第五集中被铁甲龙彻底破坏。
