Motortrend is reporting that GM plans on introducing the Chevy Volt earlier then planned probably on September 16th to celebrate its centennial. As part of the plan "the car will be featured (along with other GM products) in the upcoming Transformers sequel." The move is a result of GM has seen over 30% cut in sales as their bread and butter in trucks and SUVs is no longer selling as consumers shift to more fuel efficient cars. According to Wikipedia, the Volt "is a plug-in series-hybrid electric vehicle" that was supposed to start production in 2010.
The questions for us Transfans though is the car an alt mode for a Transformers and if so what Transformer? On the first question I say probably as usually their car concepts are generally used as TF modes. Maybe we will get lucky and GM will let some information slip. Thanks to Nanobyte for the link.
Following word this morning the production version of the Chevy Volt will be shown in September, we hear the rocking-down-electric-avenue Lutz-mobile will also be featured in Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen.
Although there's no official word if the Volt will actually be a Transformer, but given its guts and looks, it's just begging to become some kind of electric-themed Autobot. The Volt would join the Trax and the Beat as not-yet-available Chevy vehicles featured in the movie.
