The Model 389 follows in the standard-setting tradition of Peterbilt’s traditionally styled truck models. With improved aerodynamics and new technological innovations, the Model 389 commands driver preference while helping reduce operating costs.


Possessing legendary Peterbilt styling that has defined the look for a generation of trucks, the Model 389 is as distinct in appearance as it is in purpose. Extensive use of computational fluid dynamics and wind tunnel testing have improved aerodynamic performance to help achieve better fuel economy. An optional Fuel Efficiency Package brings further advantages through proprietary, specially designed cab and sleeper components that can improve fuel use by as much as to 3/10 of a mile per gallon.

The versatile Model 389 can be configured to meet the needs of a wide range of application and business requirements. It is available in truck and tractor configurations and as both a day cab or with the full range of Unibilt® sleepers. It can be customized with a wide range of Caterpillar and Cummins power options, manual and automated transmissions, numerous axles and suspensions rated for on- and off-highway use, and cab and sleeper packages that optimize operator productivity and comfort. The wheelbase can be adjusted in one-inch increments and six different frame rails are offered to custom match strength-to-weight requirements.
